Fighting for Humanity [Aug. 13th, 2004|06:40 pm]

[mood |determined]

This is my first post to this community but I just wanted to tell everyone about an organization/website I am starting up that is geared towards helping humanity. The organization is called Fighting for Humanity and can be found at www.FightingforHumanity.org.

I started Fighting for Humanity because I believe that human kind can do better. We are living in a world where people are dying every day. People are dying of mistreatment, of hunger, of war and of disease, but these deaths are preventable. Millions of people around the world are living in atrocious conditions, without a stable roof over their heads, without proper medical attention, under oppressive and corrupt governments, and even without food and water. We, however, are just sitting idly by, watching and letting these people live in horrible conditions and die needless deaths. It is our duty, not as members of some political party or of a religion or even of a country, but as human beings to do something about this ignorance and lack of compassion that is plaguing our planet Earth.

We are here at Fighting for Humanity to try and rectify this situation. We hope to provide people with the information and resources they need to make a difference and give them the greatest power of all: knowledge. We are hoping to provide our visitors with the latest information on the plights and hardships people are facing all over the world, from Cleveland, Ohio to Bangladesh, India. We also want to provide visitors with links and information on resources to help them make a difference.

Before we can really get going, however, we need to bring some traffic into our site to recruit volunteers and get the word out. So please visit our site, tell your friends about it, post our banner on your site, sign our pledge, and, if you feel so inclined, volunteer. We are in the need of an experienced web programmer and graphic designer along with people to research and compile information, help with public relations or anything else they might be interested in. If you have any ideas or questions feel free to contact us at Brian@FightingforHumanity.org and remember: working together we can make a difference.

Why do we try [Aug. 5th, 2004|02:48 pm]

[mood |creative]
[music |world music]

Why do we try
when we begin to realize
that when peace is free
life is won
but we still work
to own everyone
We monopolize
cant even try to save
for what would we keep
for all that we have
is materialistic
so we weep
why do we try
to save a world once clean
for the hope of the world
is almost empty
we fight wars
for endless causes
that dont even help
those who are restless
why do we fight for a nation
not of our own
went we can bearly keep
our own streets clean
why do we try
we might say to the masses in pain
cause they think they have to
while we beleive in everything but greed

Hey all, I just joined this community, I found it on a random search of my hometown (that's right, Kennewick) Whodathunk I'd have found this community in Kennewick! I'm in Seattle now...welll, anyway, umm....I'll probably write a huge post about peace sometime when I have the time but right now I'll just say that it's cool that this community is here and I enjoy the posts that are on it so far.

I just remembered something from mass oh so long ago. At the end of every (Catholic) mass the priest says "Peace be with you" and the congregation says "And also with you". Does this happen in other religions? And if so, well, why are so many Christians supporting this war...I mean, it's right there in mass. So, even though I'm no longer Catholic/Christian I'll say this in parting.

Peace be with you all.

Hey.... go to this website: http://costofwar.com
It compares the cost of the war in Iraq to other things.

Also, what does everybody think about the possibility of the national election being postponed?

Hey everybody!!!

Check out this website: www.peace-bracelets.com

I am not trying to convince you to order them, but I thought it was a cute, clever, heartfelt, thought-provoking and good idea. I am thinking of making my own.

What do you think?

Tell us what YOU think... [Jun. 21st, 2004|04:41 pm]

the following was taken from: http://www.sss.gov

Notwithstanding recent stories in the news media and on the Internet, Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft for the U.S. Armed Forces -- either with a special skills or regular draft. Rather, the Agency remains prepared to manage a draft if and when the President and the Congress so direct. This responsibility has been ongoing since 1980 and is nothing new. Further, both the President and the Secretary of Defense have stated on more than one occasion that there is no need for a draft for the War on Terrorism or any likely contingency, such as Iraq. Additionally, the Congress has not acted on any proposed legislation to reinstate a draft. Therefore, Selective Service continues to refine its plans to be prepared as is required by law, and to register young men who are ages 18 through 25.

Do you think this is true or are we having bureaucratic smoke blown up our asses again?

What do you think Bush will do about the draft if he is re-elected?

Or Kerry?

Peace is love. Love is peace. Peace and love is happiness.

I don't know where to start really. It's just that now in 2004 there is so much hatred in people. It's hard to say that because now there are multiple ideas coming out that are acceptable-like there are more athiests, more open homosexuals, more open minds-all though I can honestly say it's not like the 60s or 70s even though I wish it was. There were so many peace movements then now and that quite possibly may be because of the music. I am one to circulate life around music. I'm not too into conservative, modern music. I mostly listen to classic rock from the 60s, 70s and some 80s. I love Bob Marley, who is one of the biggest peace-spreaders of all time. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, The Doors etc. etc. etc. I just wish more people were open to love and happiness because that's all we need to unite. There's too much violence now.

People close their minds off to a lot. For example, those use the word "gay" as an insult, which I find completely ridiculous. Athiests are imbeciles, homosexuals are disgusting. I just can't make sense out of either of those statements. I'm straight myself, but a complete supporter of gay rights.

I think it should be legal for gays to get married. Marriage isn't just a bond of love, but of financial support. The government worries that if they start to let gays get married than people will start to want to get married to inanimate objects and animals. But they shouldn't worry about that considering that that's a complete different story. The one major disability that gays have are obviously to reproduce between themselves, and that doesn't interfere with their ability to support eachother. Reproduction isn't even what marriage is for. They can easily support eachother and work and be just as regular as any other married couple. When this topic comes up with people, they usually come up with "gay sex is disgusting". That is probably the most arrogant arguement I have ever heard. And even if people do use that arguement, gays will still have sex even if they're not married. C'mon people...gays, athiests, catholics, children, senior citizens and all the rest...we're all people. Let's just make the best out of the short period we're on this world.

Spread the peace. Tell lots of people you love them. Bring some light into their world. Reach freedom.

"Won’t you help to sing these songs of freedom?
’Cause all I ever have-redemption songs.
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
none but ourselves can free our mind."-Bob Marley

in Haiti before reaching their 5th birthday
